“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins… but because of His great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:1, 4-5
I have experienced death. It was one terrible experience. Although, I was surrounded by people who seemed to be alive, I felt so dead. There was darkness, just as how it was inside the tomb, all around. There was no spark of light. That was indeed a very frightening and a very sad experience. What I feared the most was when my sight had seemed to be oriented and adapted to this engulfing darkness, when my heart had started not to feel anything. What would save me from this?
Then there was this extra-ordinary day, the very day when I saw the Light. It was the day when I heard that I could live. I was dead because of my transgressions. I was dead because of sins. Then I understood grace. Grace. It was something given to the undeserving, a special privilege enjoyed by those who did not have any merit. I understood grace. And I received it. It was God who planned to give me life so that I may truly live. He planned to grant me the grace to live to the fullest. And it was possible. It was made possible when God, in the Person of Jesus, left heaven as part of the master plan to grant salvation to men. It was made possible by the obedience of Christ to His Father, when He yielded to the plan. The law made clear that I was and I am a sinner. But it was grace combined with an unconditional love that truly gave me hope.
Now I enjoy life and I feel so alive.
In Christ, the dead comes to life. Now, I view life with a new perspective. I see life as an opportunity to live and enjoy the grace of God. If one acknowledges his sins, repents, and goes to God, then he will have this beautiful opportune to enjoy his existence and expect that he will meet Jesus Himself after this present life in eternity. I am a living witness of grace. I was, once, dead but now alive in Christ. This is grace.
If you would like to experience this grace, pray this wholeheartedly. “Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for me. I believe in His saving grace. I receive this grace today. Please make me alive so that I may enjoy this gift you have bestowed upon me. I acknowledge my sins. I repent. And with a grateful heart, I ask for Your mercy and love to always follow me all the days of my life. Help me from this day forward to live for You. Amen.”
